Who's behind this, and how we pick what we recommend

What this site is

Nerdy Nonprofits is a resource site for people who just got their IRS 501(c)(3) determination letter and are staring at it wondering what actually comes next. We built the guides here because the honest answer to "what to do after approval" is scattered across law-firm blogs, CPA-firm blogs, and vendor sales pages. Each answers only the one-third of the question that sells their own service.

How we make money

Some of the tools we mention on this site (a donation platform, a business bank account, a CRM, web hosting) run their own referral programs. We have not yet joined any of them, so right now every link on this site is a plain, untracked link with $0 in commission attached. If that changes for a specific vendor, we'll say so plainly next to that link, and it will never cost your organization anything extra either way. The price you pay the vendor is the same whether you click our link or type in their URL directly.

How we decide what to recommend

• We only link to a product's own real, current pricing page or account terms. We don't estimate or round in the vendor's favor.
• If a product is a poor fit for some situations (too expensive for a zero-budget org, overkill before you need a full CRM, not built for nonprofits at all), we say so on the page, even if that means recommending a competitor with no referral relationship to us.
• We don't invent statistics, testimonials, or customer-logo walls. If you don't see a customer quote on a page, it's because we don't have a real one yet, not because we made one up.
• Every non-obvious factual claim (a filing deadline, a fee percentage, a state law) is checked against the source itself, usually IRS.gov, the vendor's own pricing page, or a recognized nonprofit-law reference, at the time we wrote it. Rules like state charitable-registration requirements change over time; always confirm current requirements before you act, especially for anything with a legal or tax consequence.
• We are not lawyers or accountants, and nothing on this site is legal or tax advice for your specific situation. When in doubt, a nonprofit-focused attorney or CPA is worth the call.

About the author

This site is built and run by Nate Hanes. He builds and runs small-business tools and resource sites, and put this one together after watching brand-new nonprofits repeatedly stumble through the same first-90-days gaps: no EIN, no idea what to file, no plan for donations. He is not a lawyer or a CPA, which is exactly why every factual claim on this site links back to a primary source like IRS.gov instead of asking you to take his word for it.
